Although vegetarianism is traditionally associated with a yoga-based
lifestyle, our own conclusions are that a diet which includes a good variety of meat and
fish produces greater health, strength and vitality. Interestingly, the Dalai Lama came
to the same decision in his own personal life. While we endeavour to adhere to organic
principles as far as possible, our main emphasis is on using locally produced food and
meat from animals that have been raised in a compassionate and wholesome environment.
We also use a lot of local game and fresh Cornish fish in the meals at Castlewich, which
are always delicious and healthy, with plenty of salads and fruit. Vegetarians are, of
course, happily catered for. The book which has most influenced our thinking on this
subject is 'Fit for Life'.
